Hey wanderers! Cindy here, and this week I'm trading my passport stamps for a student ID — well, sort of. Welcome to the University of Tokyo, where centuries-old traditions collide with the city's neon pulse in the most enchanting way.
Walking into the University of Tokyo's main library feels like stepping into a Miyazaki film. The arched windows, the towering shelves of weathered books, the golden afternoon light cutting through cherry blossom branches outside — it's the kind of place that makes you want to slip on a blazer, unbutton that top button, and play the part of a mischievous grad student.
And honestly? I couldn't resist. There's something undeniably alluring about academia when it's wrapped in Gothic architecture and filtered through Japanese minimalism. The quiet rustle of pages turning, the faint scent of old paper — it's a sensory overload in the best possible way.
I found a corner desk by the window, propped my glasses on my head, and pretended I was cramming for finals. Spoiler: I was just people-watching.
If you visit Todai (as locals call it) and don't walk the ginkgo avenue, did you even go? November paints this campus in impossible shades of gold — the leaves form a cathedral of yellow overhead, and the crunch underfoot is pure ASMR bliss.
I threw on a cozy cream turtleneck, a burgundy mini, and knee-highs for that perfect "transfer student from abroad" energy. Every step down this iconic path felt like a scene from a drama. Backpack slung loose, turning back to glance at the lens — it's giving main character energy and I'm not sorry.
Fun fact: the ginkgo trees here are over a century old. Some of them have witnessed more student confessions than a K-drama binge session.
And then comes my favorite part — the rooftop. Not everyone knows this, but some of Todai's buildings offer views that rival any Shibuya observation deck. Tokyo Tower peeking through the skyline, the sun dipping behind Mount Fuji's silhouette on clear days, and that electric hum of 14 million souls going about their evening.
I swapped my academic look for something breezy — cropped tee and denim shorts — because after all that studying (okay, posing), a girl needs to feel the wind in her hair. Camera in hand, sunset blazing gold, I felt like I'd uncovered one of Tokyo's best-kept secrets.
Tokyo never fails to surprise me. From Shibuya's chaos to Todai's serene corridors, this city contains multitudes — and today, it felt like mine.
Until the next adventure — 💋 Cindy
