The biggest headline for anyone building a PC right now: U.S. DDR5 RAM prices have dropped over 20% in the last month. After watching 32GB DDR5-6000 kits soar from $100 to a staggering $379-479 range during the AI-induced memory apocalypse, we're finally seeing some relief. Tom's Guide reports the "market correction" is real โ but Framework and Newegg both warn this is a temporary reprieve, with more volatility expected through the rest of 2026.

Valve actually did it. The Steam Machine launched June 25-30, 2026 at $1,049, and it's genuinely impressive: a living-room console packing an AMD RDNA 3 GPU, 16GB DDR5, and the full SteamOS experience. The catch? Hardware Unboxed dropped a banger this week: "GPU Prices To Rise By Another 40%?!?!?!" โ and while the title is spicy, the underlying data isn't great. Component costs, memory shortages, and AI demand are all pushing in the wrong direction. The RX 9070 XT remains the best value high-end GPU if you can find one near $700.

The coolest PC gaming hack of the week: Lossless Scaling now lets you offload frame generation to a secondary GPU, completely eliminating the overhead tax. A Reddit user paired an RTX 3090 (rendering) with an RTX 3050 (frame gen), hitting 144 FPS at 4K HDR โ up from 71 FPS natively. Even iGPUs can serve as dedicated frame-gen accelerators now. This revives dual-GPU gaming without SLI or CrossFire.

Seasonic's PSU calculator update confirmed what leakers have been saying: RTX 5080 Super, 5070 Ti Super, and 5070 Super are on the way. This was a week of cautious optimism wrapped in brutal reality. DDR5 prices dipping 20% is genuinely great news โ but we're still paying 3-4x what we paid in 2023 for the same kits. The Steam Machine is cool, but a lottery system in 2026 is peak "artificial scarcity" energy. Zen 6 looks incredible on paper, and the fact that AM5 lives through 2029 is a gift to anyone who bought into the platform.
If you're building right now: snag that $579 RTX 5070 while it lasts, grab 32GB of DDR5 before the window closes, and for the love of frames โ try Lossless Scaling dual-GPU if you've got a spare card lying around. It's the most fun I've had tweaking hardware all year.
