Bali, Island of the Gods: Cliffs, Sunrise Sand & Sunset Skin

There are places you visit, and then there are places that get under your skin. Bali is the second kind. The moment the plane tilts over the Indian Ocean and you catch your first flash of that impossible turquoise, you know — this island isn't just a destination. It's a mood, a fever, a slow-burning romance you never quite shake.

I've bounced across a lot of coastlines for the vlog, but nothing quite unravelled me like Bali. Maybe it's the way the humidity kisses your skin the second you step off the plane. Maybe it's the smell of frangipani and sea salt tangled together in the air. Or maybe it's just that this island knows exactly how to be looked at — and I was more than happy to oblige.

Uluwatu: Where the Cliffs Meet the Sea

My first afternoon, I drove south to Uluwatu with the windows down and a sarong tied loose around my hips. If you've never stood at the edge of a limestone cliff while the Indian Ocean throws itself against the rocks a hundred metres below, add it to your list right now.

The Uluwatu temple sits on the cliff like it's been there since the world began — carved stone, monkey guardians, and the kind of endless blue that makes you forget your own name. I let the sea breeze have its way with my hair and stood there until the light turned gold. There's a wildness in that place that feels almost sacred. Standing on the edge, skin warm from the sun, I understood why they call this the Island of the Gods.

Sunrise, Barefoot in the Sand

The next morning I was up before the roosters — and if you've been to Bali, you know that's saying something. I wanted the beach to myself before the day got loud, and I got exactly that. White sand still cool under my feet, a traditional jukung fishing boat resting on the shore, and the sky slowly bleeding from coral into turquoise.

There's a magic to being the first one on the beach. The ocean is quiet then, all soft and patient, and the first light makes everything look like it's been painted just for you. I walked the shoreline in nothing but a bikini and the feeling that anything was possible. Which, honestly, is just another Tuesday on this island.

Seminyak Sunsets & Slow Evenings

By golden hour I'd traded the cliff tops for a beach bar in Seminyak, the kind of place where beanbags sink into the sand and fairy lights flicker on one by one as the sun drops. A coconut cocktail in one hand, the ocean turning orange and pink in front of me, and nowhere in the world I needed to be.

This is Bali's real gift, I think. Not the temples or the waves or even the sunsets — it's the permission to slow all the way down. To sit bare-legged on a rattan daybed and let the evening wrap around you like warm silk. To just... be looked at, and be glad for it.

Where I'd Send You First

If you're chasing this feeling, here's my cheat sheet:

  • Uluwatu — for the cliff-edge drama and that late-afternoon gold light. Go before 4pm so you catch the temple before the crowds.
  • Nusa Dua or a quiet East-coast beach — for sunrise. The jukung boats and empty sand are pure magic.
  • Seminyak — for sunset cocktails and slow, salty evenings. Order the coconut thing. Trust me.

Bali didn't just show me a good time. It reminded me that the best travel stories aren't about ticking boxes — they're about the moments you'd happily stay in forever, skin warm and heart wide open.

Until the next shore, lovelies. 🌺
