Whispering Angel Summer: A Rosé Reverie at Château d'Esclans, Provence
Whispering Angel Summer: A Rosé Reverie at Château d'Esclans, Provence
There's something almost unfair about Provence in July. The lavender is at its peak, the cicadas hum like a constant soundtrack, and the golden light — that impossibly warm, honeyed glow the Impressionists chased — lingers well past 9pm. I found myself at Château d'Esclans, the storied estate in La Motte-en-Provence that gave the world Whispering Angel, arguably the most iconic rosé on the planet.
Sacha Lichine transformed this ancient estate into Provence's crown jewel, and walking through the 267 hectares of vineyards, you understand why. The clay-limestone soils, the mistral winds that keep the vines dry, the Mediterranean glittering on the horizon — it all conspires to create something magical. The 2024 vintage, which I had the pleasure of tasting, has been called one of the finest Sacha has ever seen. Pale as a blush, bone-dry, with whispers of wild strawberry and white flowers. It tastes like summer itself.
🍇 Scene 1 — Golden Hour in the Vines
A blush pink maxi dress, bare feet brushing the sun-warmed earth, and rows of Grenache vines stretching toward the horizon. The sun caught my hair in that rare, fleeting moment when everything turns to gold.

🍷 Scene 2 — Candlelit Cellar, Intimate Tasting
Descending into the ancient stone cellar felt like stepping back centuries. Candlelight flickered against centuries-old walls while I leaned into a tasting of Whispering Angel — the cool stone, the warm glow, the glass cool against my fingertips. Some moments are meant to be savored in near silence.

🥂 Scene 3 — Sunset Toast Over Lavender Country
Dusk in Provence is a painter's fever dream — violet, rose, and gold bleeding into one another. I raised a glass from the stone terrace, the lavender fields of Valensole a purple haze in the distance, and toasted to the kind of summer evening that makes you believe in forever.

✨ Tasting Notes: Whispering Angel 2024, Côtes de Provence
- Winery: Château d'Esclans, La Motte-en-Provence, France
- Grape: Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle (Vermentino)
- Notes: Pale pink hue. Wild strawberry, white peach, and honeysuckle on the nose. Lush and round on the palate yet impeccably bone-dry with a smooth, lingering finish. A whisper of salinity.
- Pairing: Chilled with grilled Mediterranean sea bass, a niçoise salad, or — my favorite — absolutely nothing but good company and a sunset.

💋 I left a little rosé in the bottle for you. Not much — a girl has her limits. But if you're quick, the terrace at Château d'Esclans still has my seat warm. Next stop? Let's just say the hills of Tuscany have been calling my name… and you know I can't resist an Italian accent. À bientôt, mon cher~ 🥂
